  GRAMMYS 2009,
STAPLES CENTER, LOS ANGELES / CAROLE AND FLORENT ON MYSPACE Florent Atem has
just returned from California where the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony
was held at the famous Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles and
is currently working on some new acoustic guitar projects. Although
they didn't bring the Grammy home, Florent and
the other artists featured on the new Hawaiian Slack Key Kings
compilation had the privilege to take part in the prestigious award
ceremony. Highlights included a sold-out performance at the brand
new Grammy Museum which opened its doors just recently in Los Angeles.
The concert was filmed and is now part of the museum archives for
              future visitors to see.

Slack Key Kings compilation series - featuring an original

      Florent's
second nomination caused quite a stir in the local press and owed
him to be featured as a special guest in the news bulletins of both
local TV stations, beside radio and newspaper features. The English
translation of a French press article can be found on the Agence

 MICHAEL ANGELO
BATIO, TAHITI 2008: SOLD-OUT CONCERT FOR TAHITI'S FIRST EVER INSTRUMENTAL
ROCK GUITAR EVENT Known the world over as one of the
greatest rock guitarists of all times, Michael Angelo Batio's
blazing performance at the Endeavour Room of the Radisson Hotel
on Friday, May 16th, 2008, proved once again that his reputation
was in no way usurped. Mesmerized by the technical skills of the
man now referred to as Mr. "hands without shadows", the
many spectators that had flooded the venue were also in for a special
treat with the highly-anticipated live performance of the double
              guitar solo.
      Local acts included
new promising artist Anthony Doucet who opened
the show, followed by the Michel Poroi, Florent Atem, Daniel
Benoit trio, who played a very melodic yet technical acoustic
set, before Carole & Florent ATEM took the
stage for a few songs off their repertoire. Towards the end of his
              performance, Michael Angelo invited Carole
and Florent to play a song with him onstage - the
"Nuclear Blues" - which was greeted by the audience with
a standing ovation, a true accomplishment for the Polynesian duo.
This instrumental rock guitar event, organized by the A.P.E.A.TA.E.
association, was the first ever of its kind to take place in Tahiti.      During the evening, three prizes
were awarded to three lucky audience members - a guitar from H2D
music store, Carole & Florent ATEM and Michael
Angelo Batio CD's, as well as a gift card, courtesy of
Tahiti Vanilla Market. After the huge success of this event, the
A.P.E.A.TA.E. will certainly keep moving forward towards its goal,
which is to help promote musical and cultural exchanges between
local and foreign artists. .................................................. - APRIL '08:

      In 2000, Michael
Angelo had praised both Florent's and
Carole's playing after hearing a recording by Florent
              Atem (see the "Reviews"
section in the Florent Atem part of this site to

 AN EVENING
WITH CAROLE & FLORENT ATEM AT THE MANA ROCK CAFÉ Carole & Florent ATEM
performed at the Mana Rock Café, launching a new concert-dinner
formula, thought up by the café's managers as well as Carole
and Florent. The concert was sold-out since noon
that day and was a great success. In the wake of this highly appreciated
musical evening, other events of the same nature will soon be scheduled,
featuring Carole & Florent ATEM again and other
bands as well. In the meantime, Carole and Florent
would like to thank all the people who came to the show and are
looking forward to the next two nights in October and December of
this year (check out the "Concerts
& Events" page for more information).

 AGRÉGATION
2006 / "HAWAIIAN SLACK KEY KINGS" WITH JACK JOHNSON /
TRIBUTE TO BOB MARLEY Florent Atem successfully
passed the highest degree in French secondary school - the "agrégation"
              - in the English field and ranking 36 among the 145 successful candidates
out of the 2000 candidates who took the tests.
As far as music is concerned, "Sacred
Ground", an instrumental slack key guitar piece by Florent
released in 2002 on the New Wave
Natives compilation is about to be released on Hawaiian
Slack Key Kings, a new compilation featuring famous Hawaiian
artists such as Ledward Ka'apana from the band
Hui Ohana as well as Jack Johnson.
The album should be released in the next few months.       Carole and Florent
also worked with Bob St John on a track that will
be featured on a Bob Marley tribute compilation
which should be released in October. .................................................. - JANUARY '06:
 "FINAL
HOUR AT THE TOWER" WITH HENRY KAPONO After five years of activity as one
of Hawaii's most popular live venues, Kapono's has now closed its
doors. Located in Aloha Tower Marketplace in the Honolulu harbour,
the outdoor bar-restaurant has provided local musicians as well
as world-famous acts with a stage to perform on. The New Year's
Eve concert - featuring Henry Kapono's band including
Carole and Florent Atem - was
the very last event to take place at the venue. Appropriately named
"Final Hour At The Tower", the event was captured on tape
and should be released as a live CD and DVD.
      During their stay in
              Hawaii, Carole and Florent also
took part in several projects as studio musicians, playing in records
by Hawaiian artists produced by Bob St John. .................................................. - DECEMBER '05:

/ CAROLE AND FLORENT ATEM LIVE IN HAWAII WITH HENRY KAPONO A new website about entertainment
in Tahiti and its islands has just appeared on the Internet. www.ifenua.com

and Florent's recent concerts as well as an article
              about Florent Atem's Dreamtown record.

      Carole
and Florent will also be performing in Hawaii with Henry
Kapono's band during the months of December '05 and January

 DREAMTOWN LIVE
/ GUESTBOOK Carole and Florent would
like to thank all the people who helped them turn their two concerts
at the Radisson Hotel in Tahiti into two incredibly successful nights.
Appropriately named "Dreamtown Live", the two dates were
celebrating the Tahitian release of Dreamtown, Florent
Atem's first solo album. Carole and Florent
had the pleasure to welcome the producers and most of the musicians
who were part of the making of the record - John Cuniberti
and Jeff Campitelli, respectively Joe Satriani's
producer and drummer, world-class bass player Michael Manring
as well as producer Bob St John who flew in from
              Hawaii for the occasion.
      About a thousand people
showed up at the shows during which Carole and
              Florent performed tracks off Dreamtown,
Florent's first solo record, but also a few covers
including "Summer Song", "Always With Me, Always
With You" and "Surfing With The Alien" by Joe
Satriani. Not ready to go home, the highly enthusiastic
audience was still asking for more after the two-hour rock set !
Those who wish to sign Carole and Florent's
brand new guestbook can do so by going to the "Guestbook"
section of this site.      Those who missed the
shows can still get the album in all the fine record stores in Tahiti!
Also, RFO Télé Polynésie - the official partner
on the event - will be broadcasting the second concert on channel
              1 on Saturday, June 11th, 2005, at about 8 p.m.      Message
from Carole & Florent ATEM:      "Special thanks
              to John Cuniberti, Jeff Campitelli,
Michael Manring and Bob St John
but also to Fred Ayangma as well as the whole crew
from RFO Télé Polynésie, Georges Bona

Hotel, Tahiti Music, Carrefour Arue and Carrefour Punaauia, Marie-Pierre
              Lavie, Carole and Raimana Kennes,
as well as William Izal for their help during both
nights. Looking forward to the next one! Hahaha...      Last but not least,
we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for
your support during the past few years! Without you, none of this
would have been possible. See you at the shows... ROCK ON!" .................................................. - APRIL

Bailey classic, "Easy Lover". Producer Bob St John

requiring a reggae version of the song. Check out the Discography

with Carole and Florent to discuss many topics including

recording sessions at The Plant, Carole and Florent

  THE PLANT
'03 / MEETING WITH JOE SATRIANI Backed up by Jeff Campitelli
(Joe Satriani's drummer) and Michael Manring, Carole
and Florent have cut a few instrumental tracks at The Plant,
produced by John Cuniberti (Joe Satriani's producer),
as well as some vocal material, produced by Bob St John at
Neos Productions studios in Hawaii. Florent is currently
working on some more compositions to complete the album which will
feature original compositions exclusively and will be released on
              the US market.
      Carole & Florent ATEM
also had the privilege to spend an afternoon with Joe Satriani
              - one of their heroes - at the studio before their recordings. Joe
himself would start working on his new album there a few days after
their sessions. (Check out the Photo gallery

  FLORENT ATEM
RECORDING WITH JOHN CUNIBERTI Florent Atem will be working
with John Cuniberti - Joe Satriani's producer and
engineer - who has expressed interest in producing a full album
with him. The recordings will start next month in San Francisco
at The Plant recording studio in Sausalito, a facility that has
welcome artists such as Joe Satriani himself, Celine Dion,
Mariah Carey, Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder,
John Lee Hooker, The Doobie Brothers or Metallica,
              just to name a few.
      John Cuniberti
is one of the most experienced producers and engineers in the music
business, specialized in guitar-oriented records, and some of his
wonderful work can be heard on guitar god Joe Satriani's
albums. He first heard Florent's playing on a demo - which
a music lawyer in San Francisco and friend of his gave to him -
and thought it would be interesting to have him fly to the Bay Area
and work on a project together.      Carole Atem will
also be part of the project and will take care of all the keyboard
and piano parts. Florent and Carole will be backed
up by none other than Jeff Campitelli - Joe Satriani's
drummer - on drums and Michael Manring on bass. .................................................. - MAY '03:
  HENRY KAPONO,
TAHITI '03 After performing a few of his greatest
hits on some local TV shows in order to give people a foretaste
of what they would be treated to, Henry Kapono and his musicians
              - including Carole & Florent ATEM - performed for more
than two hours at Aorai Tini Hau on May 16th, for an audience of
contemporary Hawaiian rock fans. Makau Foster's dance troupe
opened the show before Henry Kapono's band hit the stage.
      Carole Atem was
up first, setting a rather dreamlike atmosphere with some of her
trademark keyboard tricks. Florent Atem came up second, adding
his own touch to the whole picture before Lopaka Colón
and Ricky Gilbert - on percussions and drums, respectively
              - took it to the next level with their hypnotic rythm figures. James
Roberts then just had to add his contribution on bass and the
epic intro to the whole set was peaking. It was in that mystic ambience
that Henry Kapono entered the stage, cheered by an already
conquered crowd. The tone for the whole evening was given.      Song after song,
the audience got to see a true "genius" - as some local
newspaper printed - perform right before their eyes. As usual, Kapono
gave the audience both music and love through his one of a kind
"sensual rock" - as another paper printed. But everybody
in the band also had their moment of glory. Highlights included
Lopaka Colón's fine yet powerful percussion work on
raher upbeat songs, Ricky Gilbert's impeccable grooves and
drum solos within certain tunes, James Roberts' incredibly
solid bass playing, Carole Atem's delicate yet astounding
keyboard parts and Florent Atem's very personal incendiary
rendition of the Santana classic - "Europa".      Georges Bona
and Mario Brothers, the two emcees for the night, also did
a great job as well as world class engineer Bob St John.
In a nutshell, as it is always the case during a Kapono concert,
everybody had fun on that very special evening - whether they were
in the audience or on stage! .................................................. - APRIL '03:

and Florent hadn't performed for their audience in Raiatea
since 1997 and on Saturday night, the parish hall in Uturoa was
packed. The concert - which was followed by a long photo and autograph
session was the opportunity for many to actually meet the two artists.

place on Saturday, February 15th, 2003 at the Grand Théâtre
De La Maison De La Culture, was attended by a large audience which

 FAVORITES
CD RELEASE PARTY Carole and Florent would
like to thank all the people who came to their CD release party
on October 4th, 2002 at the Mana Rock Café. The venue was
especially packed and the audience was able to enjoy Carole
and Florent's live versions of all the songs from Favorites
among others. Some people also had the opportunity to sing a couple
of numbers onstage with the band and the luckiest ones even won
their own copies of the record!
      At some point in the
show, the tables turned and for once the audience sang for Carole:
it was also her birthday, indeed! From Carole and Florent,
once again thanks to everybody in the crowd for a wonderfully unique
              night. .................................................. - SEPTEMBER '02:

ensemble. As well, award-winning engineer Bob St John's participation
brings additional brilliance to Carole, Florent and

Favorites roused the enthusiasm of multiple listeners and
music critics both in Tahiti and Hawaii. Besides, Hawaiian legend
Henry Kapono honored the young duo by declaring : "Carole

 FLORENT ATEM
ON NEW WAVE NATIVES / HAWAII, JUL.-AUG. '02 TOUR Two of Florent's new compositions
have just been released in Hawaii on a compilation entitled New
Wave Natives, a collection of seventeen slack key tunes
by artists who are considered to be the hottest new talents in that
              style.
      Being a rock-fusion
guitar player, Florent is very proud of being part of the
project as a slack key guitarist this time! He is also very happy
to hear that Sacred Ground - one of his two compositions
featured on the album - has been selected to promote the whole project
and is currently on pretty heavy rotation on Hawaiian radio stations.      Carole and Florent
are just back from Hawaii after five weeks of concerts and various
guest appearances. During their stay there, they had the tremendous
honor and privilege to share the stage again with Hawaiian legendary
singer/songwriter Henry Kapono who invited them to join his
band for the Summer. These were great moments since everybody had
fun, both on stage and in the audience. Now, the band is looking
forward to renew the experience and share the good times again but
in Tahiti this time...      Beside performing as
Henry Kapono's musicians, Carole and Florent
played with Cecilio & Kapono and gave a few concerts
on their own as well, thus taking their trademark pop/rock sound
to a few local clubs. Finally, they were also invited by the wonderful
traditional Hawaiian band Maunalua as well as other great
artists and long-time friends such as John Cruz or Guy
Cruz to perform on stage with them. ..................................................   |
